Job Summary: Work to improve the health and safety of entire communities of people, educating them on health issues and increasing access to care. Assess public health needs of the community; coordinate and implement public health programs; and collaborate with community partners to maximize resources.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Coordinate all aspects of immunization program in the county:
  • Administer vaccines and educate clients/guardians on required and recommended vaccinations, precautions, contraindications, and possible adverse reactions.
  • Have a working knowledge of recommended child/adult immunization schedules and catch-up immunization schedules.
  • Answer questions in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Promote adherence to the CDC vaccination schedule.
  • Manage vaccine inventory including ordering, monitoring, rotating, and removing
  • expired supplies. Ensure timely and accurate documentation.
  • Facilitate vaccination reminder/recalls.
  • Ensure proper transfer of vaccines when applicable including documentation.
  • Provide nursing services in the office such as: blood pressure screenings, senior education, head lice checks, fluoride varnish, orthodontic screening and other services.
  • Implement High Priority Infant program involving clinic or home visits to provide guidance to families of infants during first year of life.
  • Educate the public to help reduce injuries and deaths.
  • Provide health education to schools as requested. Train school personnel as needed.
  • Conduct vision screenings with targeted students.
  • Provide tuberculosis treatment, follow up and case management.
  • Engage in health promotion activities such as tobacco, alcohol and opioid prevention strategies.
  • Educate the community on the importance of preventing chronic infectious diseases.
  • Participate in community coalitions and organizations as needed.
  • Participate in ongoing trainings and professional development to stay current with best practices and emerging trends regarding immunizations and public health issues.
  • Collect fees for services.
  • Oversee Administrative Assistant
  • Complete required clinical and billing documentation accurately and timely in the electronic medical records.
  • Submit end-of-month documentation as well as quarterly reporting data.
  • Provide community with information on environmental health services and proctor food safety tests.
  • Assist non-English-speaking clients by overcoming barriers to healthcare access, utilizing interpreters when necessary.
  • Assists with ordering emergency first aid and nursing supplies, and maintaining inventory.
  • Verify oxygen tank levels and order refills as needed.
  • Verify refrigerator and freezer temperatures.
  • Assist in emergency planning and disaster response as needed.
  • Mentor and precept nursing students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to handle sensitive issues in a mature, confidential manner with integrity and tact.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement and make nursing care decisions.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, and follow HIPAA regulations.
  • Ability to use electronic health record, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Working knowledge of community organizations that provide assistance to members of their community.

Requirements:

  • Current, unencumbered North Dakota Registered Nurse license. BSN preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of one year of nursing experience.
  • Must be eligible for Professional Liability Insurance.
  • Must be certified in CPR.
  • Must have a current driver’s license.
  • Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel within the county and neighboring counties.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours if needed.
  • Must provide current immunization record prior to employment.
  • Must have ACIP vaccines recommended for healthcare workers within 6 months of
  • employment, including annual influenza vaccinations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and walking.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds at a time with or without assistance.
  • Be able to pack, haul and transport supplies.
  • Ability to read small print.
