School Health Nursing

A planned program of learning activities and experiences within the school setting that are directed toward developing an environment that protects and promotes the health of the students and the school personnel. Services vary by county and may include:

 

  • Direct care (emergencies, illness, injuries)
  • Maintain and update immunization records
  • Identification of health problems
  • Vision, hearing, and other screening
  • Management of communicable disease (such as head lice)
  • Care for students with special needs
  • Supervision of medication administration
  • Resource to teachers for health education
  • Health education presentations in classroom (upon request)
  • Health education in-service for school staff (upon request)
