What is a car seat checkup?
Child car seat checks teach parents and caregivers how to correctly use their child’s car seat or seat belt. Nearly 90 percent of child car seats are used incorrectly, so your child’s car seats will be checked to be sure:
- It has not been recalled.
- It meets federal safety standards.
- It is installed correctly.
- It is appropriate for the child’s age, weight and height.
- The child is properly secured in the seat.

Appointments preferred not required, to make an appointment call First District Health Unit at 701-837-5195. If leaving a message please leave the following information: number of seats to be checked, make and model of vehicle, ages of child(ren), brand and model of car seat and preferred time of check of scheduled date. Please allow 45 minutes/seat.
